What about the 4Cs?<\/h3>\n

The 4Cs are inseparable from each other and serve as a reference scale for determining a diamond’s value. The first C stands for Carat, the diamond’s weight according to the international measurement governing the gem trade. The second C refers to Cut, the diamond’s size. A third C for Colour measures the diamond’s color on a scale from D to Z, with D corresponding to “exceptional white +”. The letters from M to Z are used for color intensity. The final C for Clarity determines the diamond’s purity on a scale ranging from Flowless to Piqu\u00e9 3. <\/p>\n

The diamond rush<\/h3>\n

Eureka is the name of one of the most famous diamonds in the history of gemology. It owes its fame not to its weight, color, size or purity, but to the fact that it was discovered in South Africa in 1867 by a young boy playing on the banks of the Orange River. His discovery, followed two years later by that of the Star of South Africa by a shepherd, marked the starting point of the diamond rush that turned the country and its gem economy upside down. Created in 1888 to exploit South Africa’s mines, the De Beers diamond company now controls 70% of the market. <\/p>\n

Carob<\/strong>, the name of a tree that grows in South Africa, is the origin of the word carat. The seeds produced by this species have a constant weight of 0.20 g, which quickly became a benchmark in the early days of gem trading. <\/p>\n

A magnifying glass,<\/strong> but not just any magnifying glass! Like an extension of the expert’s eye, the ten-times magnifying glass is aplanatic and achromatic: it doesn’t distort straight lines or add color nuances. <\/p>\n

Brilliance<\/strong> is one of the essential elements that contribute to a diamond’s beauty. Diamond fire refers to the reflections of rainbow colors that seem to escape from the stone’s interior. Brilliance evokes the light that refracts in white flashes. Finally, the diamond’s hardness enables it to be polished to a very high level, so the light reflected on its surface is exceptional. <\/p>\n
