In the 1960s, the new sport of scuba diving was all the rage. For divers, timekeeping was essential. So Breitling set out to give them the sharpest, most accurate dive watch possible by eliminating all functions that didn't meet their vital underwater needs. This reduced watch was called the Slow Motion. All that remained were the clear lines, thick luminescent-coated indexes, square hands and contrasting dial ring to optimize legibility. Practical, to be sure. But what everyone loved most of all was the style.

The new Superocean retraces the famous aesthetic codes of Slow Motion, adding modern features such as a ceramic inlaid bezel and brightly colored dials. Large hands and indexes with Super-LumiNova® luminescent coating facilitate underwater legibility. The watch is water-resistant to 300 m (1000 ft) and also withstands shocks, sand and salt water. The bronze version is equipped with a special corrosion-resistant alloy. However, a slight patina will appear over time, making the watch even more unique. Both strap options (rubber and metal) feature a folding clasp that allows micro-adjustments to within 15 mm for easier wearing with thermal tops and wetsuits. The scratch-resistant ceramic inlaid bezel is resistant to wear and fading. For safety, the bezel is unidirectional on most sizes, but bidirectional and equipped with a patented lock on the 46 mm model.
