Château de Gruyères In what was once the main residence of one of Western Switzerland’s most important noble families in the Middle Ages, history takes on a fairytale air. Built in the 13th century as the home of the Counts of Gruyère, the castle’s commanding position, with its beautiful views over the surrounding countryside, has preserved intact the imprint of the past. Stroll through the formal gardens, admire the Romantic period apartments, dream of chivalrous duels in the knights’ hall… Behind the thick ramparts, wall decorations, battle spoils and Romantic paintings take you back in time for the pleasure of the whole family.

Les Bains de la Gruyère How about a little height? Situated at an altitude of 900m, the village of Charmey offers much more than a majestic panorama of the surrounding countryside. A little closer to (seventh) heaven, we dive with delight into Les Bains de la Gruyère. Three vast pools of mineral water heated to 34°C with bubbling sofas, jets and water jets promise optimum relaxation. Relaxation can be continued in one of the three saunas or in the oriental area, featuring a hammam and Turkish baths.

The Moléson After a gentle wake-up call, the day promises to be ideal for discovering the Moléson. Perched at an altitude of 2002m, this summit offers a 360-degree panorama of the Lake Geneva region, the peaks of the Bernese Oberland, the Mont Blanc chain and the 3 lakes region. The summit is easily reached by funicular and cable car. On the way up or down, stop off at one of the alpine cheese dairies. Nestled in an alpine pasture in Moléson-sur-Gruyères, an old 17th-century chalet with a shingled roof opens its doors to visitors. Wood-fired cauldrons, cheese-pressing, cheese-salting… Each step reveals a part of the age-old secrets of Gruyère cheese. The geographical proximity of Gruyère in no way hints at the power of the feeling that dominates on leaving: that of having escaped, far, far away…
